Top Must-Have Items for Your College Dorm Room

The process of moving into a college dorm room for the first time can be an intimidating one for many freshmen. For most people, this is the time in life when you are claiming the most independence that you have ever had. Up until now, someone else has always seen to how comfortable your living space is. Now it is all up to you to create a space that is functional and comfortable.

Most college dorm rooms are outfitted with essential furniture and a mattress. There are many items that you will want to bring along yourself, though, so as to ensure that your dorm room is as comfortable as possible.

It is important to remember that you will most likely be sharing at least some of your dorm room with a roommate. Some colleges offer large spaces that function more like suits than single rooms, but traditionally speaking, a dorm room will be a single room that you share with another individual.

With all this in mind, here are some of the must-have items that you should look to obtain for your dorm room so that you can have a great experience living away from home for the first time.

A Place to Sit

Even though your dorm room will come with a bed and a chair for a desk, you will want to have additional seating that is more suited to comfort and lounging. There is only so long that you can sit at a desk doing schoolwork, and it is always a good idea to keep your sleeping space free of work.

Make sure that you plan to bring along some comfortable seating to put in your dorm room. You will need to make sure that the seating you choose fits well in the space, and since dorm rooms are notoriously small on average, you might want to grab exact measurements before you make any decisions.

If you also want to have a seating option that can easily be moved about your room, bean bag chairs might be the perfect solution for you. They offer a place to sit, kick back, and relax that is also supportive enough for you to do school work in.

Snack Storage

When you live on campus, you will have a meal plan that you can use for all of your main meals and even for snacks throughout the day. However, the majority of food options on campus will have set hours that you will need to stick to to get your food. This can prove to be rather inconvenient when you need to study late into the night or get up incredibly early in the morning.

Because of this, you will want to make sure that you have some snack storage in your dorm room. Whether you bring an extra cabinet or opt for the classic mini-fridge, make sure that you have a place to put snacks and drinks so that you can ward off hunger during those late-night study sessions.
